Do-it-Yourself - Install a Glass Block Window, Yes You Can!

Author: Danita Lickfelt

Classic glass block windows have been around for decades and for good reason. Where ventilation is not needed or desired, glass block windows allow natural light to pass through while providing privacy or blocking out unwanted views. With styles and patterns that let you choose from complete privacy to a totally translucent view, you'll find glass blocks that will let you get exactly the look and level of light control and privacy that you desire. From diamond patterns to stripes and wave patterns, the beauty of glass blocks is that they require no window treatment and they allow the architecture of the glass and the room to take center stage.

What you may not know is that it is relatively simple to install a glass block window yourself. Skip the expense of professional installation and read on to learn how to make this stylish upgrade to your home.

Getting Started: Glass Blocks and Supplies

First you need to know how many glass blocks you need to fit the window opening. Measure your window and take the measurements to the home improvement or glass supply store. Depending on the style of block you choose, the professional at the store can determine how many blocks you need, as well as the configuration. Before you leave the store, pick up whatever supplies you don't already have: a sharp utility knife, plastic putty knife, plastic tracking and spacers, silicone sealer and caulking to match the tracking and the exterior window frame. You will also need a drill for creating pilot holes, a marking pencil, measuring tape and wood screws.

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. If there is an existing window, remove it and its accompanying tracking system. Scrape away any residual adhesive and caulking.

2. Measure the opening and then measure, mark and cut the plastic tracking to fit all four sides. Install the bottom piece of tracking, as well as the side pieces by marking pilot holes in the tracking for screw locations with a pencil. Drill the holes, and then attach the tracking to the window with wood screws. Don't install your top piece of tracking yet.

3. You will be installing the glass block from starting at the bottom of the window and working toward the top. In order to accommodate the last block on the top row, you need to cut a notch in the plastic tracking that will be installed at the top of the window: Use a sharp utility knife to cut a notch that is one inch longer than the width of one block. The notch must also be half the width of the tracking. In other words, you are going to cut a notch lengthwise in the top section of tracking that is half as wide as the track and one inch longer than the width of your glass block.

4. Set this smaller notched out piece aside for installation with the final block and install the remainder of the top track, with the opening that you notched in, marking pilot holes and screwing it to top of the window. The notched section of track should face to interior side of the window, with the full length of tracking to the exterior.

5. Begin laying block at a bottom corner. Use a trimmed spacer to keep your vertical spacing consistent; place your next block and check that the blocks sit securely in the tracking channel. Finish laying blocks for the bottom row and use a horizontal spacer to set the next row; continue with vertical spacers between blocks on the same row, to keep your blocks level and evenly spaced. Continue in this fashion until you reach the top row at the notched area for the final glass block.

6. Cut the tip off a tube of silicone sealer and run a thin bead along the edge of tracking that you previously set aside. Adhere the tracking to the edge of the glass block, press gently to smooth out an air bubbles, and set the final block securely in place.

7. Seal all the blocks along horizontal seams first with silicone sealer; run silicone along vertical seams, skipping over the horizontal bead you just created. Seams must be sealed on both the interior and exterior of the window. Use a putty knife to smooth the bead and wipe away excess with a clean wet rag. Finally, seal the interior and exterior of the window frame with latex caulk.

Discover ratings of pearl jewellery

There are a lot of online shops at our choice today, whether you are looking to buy accessories, books or even a house, chances are you will find the best choice online. Pearl jewellery lovers see a great variety of choices offered to them in online shops or online marketplaces. But before purchasing pearl jewellery online there are few guidelines that you might like to follow in order to find the best quality authentic ones.

First of all: cultured or natural?  You may have heard words like a€œnatural pearlsa€ or a€œcultured pearlsa€ and come across terms like a€œfreshwater pearlsa€ and a€œsalt water pearlsa€ and find it all a little confusing. Here's a quick explanation: most of the pearls on the market these days are cultured pearls, either nurtured in fresh water or salt water. Natural pearls are extremely rare as they are only discovered in perhaps one in a million oysters. These are pearls that you see on the Queen's jewellery sets since centuries ago.

The rate of the pearl jewellery is decided by the quality and size of the pearls that it is made with. The reason behind the relative high price of pearl jewellery is because of the kind of hard work involved in culturing pearls. Only one in 10 oysters can actually produce a real pearl.  The cultured pearls are created by introducing an irritant element in a controlled environment.  The environment in which a pearl is grown also affects its quality.

Lustre is the thing that decides largely the value of your pearl jewellery. The sizes are also taken into consideration: typically the larger the more expensive.  There are roughly three levels of grading for pearl jewellery, marked as a€œAa€, a€œAAa€ or a€œAAAa€. The triple A normally is given to the best quality pearl jewellery. A few pearl jewellery retailers mark their best items as a€œAAA+a€ or a€œAAAAa€ but this is seen as a sign of bad taste by trusted, established sellers.  The price of pearl jewellery is directly related to its rating.  The traditional type of pearl jewellery is a single or double strand of round pearls, however more and more varieties of pearl shapes and styles are offered to us nowadays.

Maths On The Beads Of Abacus

Author: anchal

Math on the Bead Abacus

To do simple arithmetic on the bead abacus, you first must determine what base you want to use, and if you want to have fractional values available. Dave Bernazzani gives this very concise explanation of a base 10 numbering system for the abacus:

One of the columns is chosen to be the "Units" column and can be any column of your choosing (if you are working with only whole numbers, simply use the rightmost column). If you are working out calculations for monetary sums - reserve the rightmost 2 columns for the decimals and make the 3rd column the "Units" column. Each column to the left of the units column is worth 10 times more than its right-hand neighbor. Each column to the right is worth 0.1 times its left-hand neighbor. So, for example, if you choose the third column to be the "Units" column then you would have the following values:
First Column: Hundredths
Second Column: Tenths
Third Column: Units (Ones)
Fourth Column: Tens Fifth
Column: Hundreds
Sixth Column: Thousands Etc.
(Bernazzani).

An everyday use for the abacus is adding numbers together as you would in a shop. The basic idea of addition is to enter one number into the abacus and then add the second number, column by column, to the values that are already in each column. Although you can work from left to right or right to left, it is more efficient to work right to left (move fewer beads). The only tricky part of addition is when you do not have enough unused beads in that column to represent the value you want to add. Subtraction is just the reverse of addition, with the same necessity of sometimes subtracting 10 and adding 1 in order to take away 9 (Dilson 43ff). Figure 2 and Figure 3 show the basis of addition and subtraction operations.

Simple multiplication (i.e. 5 x 7) is done as repeated addition. It is useful to keep a running tally of how many times you have added 7. The unused columns on the left hand side of the abacus can be used for this. Two digit or higher multiplication is done just as with pencil and paper. It requires memorizing the times tables or having a second abacus to do the simple multiplication. The units column is done first. The results of the multiplication of the unit of the bottom number and the tens of the top number are stored IN THE SECOND column. Keep in mind the process of pen and paper multiplication, and the abacus presents no real difficulty. Division is done as repeated subtraction - again keeping a tally of how many times you have subtracted (Dilson 121ff). Figures 4 and 5 illustrate these 2 processes.

If you would like a little challenge, try doing calculations in other number systems. The Chinese abacus is already useful for base 2 and base 16 calculations. Each rod on the Chinese abacus has 16 possible values because that was the unit of weight in China (Accent Interactive). Because of this, you can also use the Chinese abacus for hexadecimal calculation. And if you ignore the earth beads, you can use the heaven beads for binary calculations.

The best way to learn about the abacus is by doing. Get a stack of pennies or buttons, clear a spot on the kitchen table and try out some sums! And as you are busily calculating away, keep in mind that you are continuing a two thousand year tradition that is still alive and well today.

  2. QUESTION:
how to make the plan for storage and organization of my bead work?

    • ANSWER:
You can store beads and other beading components in small reusable containers like baby food jars and prescription bottles, or you can purchase modular plastic or acrylic containers sold at bead stores. Use a spoon or bead scoop to collect beads and place them back into their containers when you’re finished with them. It’s a good idea to organize your containers by the type, color, or material of the items they contain.

Want to replace my aunt's bracelet. Where can I find beads like this?
My aunt gave me her favorite bracelet yesterday when she saw me admiring it. I feel really bad! I thought it would be nice to make her a replacement that looks a lot like it. I have no clue about these beads though...

I think they're glass. About half are these spherical "evil eye" beads that're one color, but then have here and there a black dot in a white circle. Anyone know what those are called?

The other ones I need to find are kind of a Chinese style? They're spherical and have a variety of background colors. The "print" is a five-petaled flower with two leafs between them on either side (so 4 leafs total on the whole bead). Also, the flowers and the leafs are outlined by what looks like copper wire. Does anyone know what this kind of bead is called?

Finally, all the spherical beads are separated by these smaller, donut-shaped beads that're flat on the exterior, like cross-sections of a cyllinder, but inlaid with some pretty gemstones (not precious, I'm sure). What're these called?

Decorating With Beaded Curtains

By Erica Bosworth

No more boring window treatments now that beaded curtains are back! Oh, you may think this is a flashback to the 1960s, but beaded curtains have made a comeback in a whole new way. Groovier than ever designs create exciting plays on light and texture and even work as room dividers.

Where to Use Beads

There are several ways to including beading in your window designs. The entire curtain can be made of beads and hang in colourful strands from the top of the window right down to the floor. This makes a great room divider and can be hung from the top of a doorway. It is ideal for areas you want to define, but not completely close off from one another.

Beads can be strung in such a way to create beautiful mosaics. The finished designs will appear as intricate tapestry, or can be as simple as a monochromatic hanging of different transparencies of glass or plastic beads. Even wooden beads can be used to create a natural looking window treatment.

Beaded curtains can also be used to close off a closet area. This works well in smaller rooms where closet doors may take up too much space when opened and closed.

Using Beads in Curtain Design

Full curtains made of beads are not the only way to incorporate beads into the overall look of the window dressing. Beads can be sewn into fabric to add sparkle and interest. Use contrasting colours, or simply reflect light with a tone on tone bead sewn in random patterns across the fabric.

Beads also make an elegant edging to drapes, sheers or curtains. Imagine a cafe style curtain in a sunroom or family room with a fringe of beads. The room instantly becomes a casual but stylish place for the whole family.

Adding a fringe of beads along formal drapes creates a more formal and elegant look ideal for the living room. You can even dress up furniture with throw pillows accented with the same beaded edging as the drapes.

Beading Even For Those Who Hate to Sew

For those who find sewing too big a chore, you can purchase ready made drapes or curtains and add your own bead work. Some fringes are designed with a nice heavy backing that can even be hot glued into place. However, keep in mind that sewing will give it a more professional looking finish that will stand up to dry cleaning or laundering much better than craft glues.

Decorating with beads is easy and fun and a quick home improvement fix. It

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Are those art glass beads okay for the bottom of my aquarium?
Iv got an aquarium set up with those glass beads you see in craft stores and in vases. I have them for the bottom of my tank. I'm wondering if they're okay and if they will grow algae on them because i also have an algae eater.
Im wondering about the algae because if theres no algae the fish could starve

    • ANSWER:
Generally they're okay but shouldn't be the only thing in the tank and you need to be sure there isn't some kind of laquer or paint on them that can chip off or leach chemicals into your water. You will still need some kind of gravel or sand since the glass marbles of any kind generally don't make a good surface for algae or beneficial bacteria to grow on. Be sure you are offering other foods to your algae eater...Most tanks don't grow the right kind of algae for them in a big enough amount to maintain their health. They need a varied diet just like we do. Be sure to offer algae wafers and blanched veggies(dipped in boiling water for a few seconds so the veggie doesn't float) periodicly. Zucchinni, squash, cooked peas with the hull off (smoosh each one between your fingers and give them the inner pieces), canned green beans.

  2. QUESTION:
Is there a good market out there for blowing glass?
Like selling pipes wholesale and retail? and even glass art, beads and other jewelery. Please help as much info as possible, thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Well, that was a nasty first answer. Beads have been an extremely popular item for the last ten years and skilled makers get dozens of dollars for the biggest and best ones. They are sold in shops, online, and at beadmaking get togethers. There are dedicated magazines or look for FLOW which is for all aspects of torchworking. Bong pipes are made by clowns who think that is the be all and end all and by guys working in neon and scientific glassblowing and most sold in the US are probably made in China.

  3. QUESTION:
Going to vietnam, looking for glass beads?
will be staying Pham Ngu Lao Street, Pham Ngu Lao Ward, Dist 1,Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
Any ideas, anywhere nearby I can get glass beads for art and craft. Best if they are supplier.

    • ANSWER:
AS a regular traveler to Vietnam, I have rarely seen places selling glass beads. There are a few, but not many.

Cambodia, however, is a different story. All the markets have many stalls selling glass beads.

People in Vietnam are very industrious. I would say categorically that if you speak to your hotel staff or the vendors in the markets you will be pointed in the right direction to find a person that makes them from home.

Baring in mind the basic wage in VN is on some a month, if you do the right thing with a home producer, they will enlist others to make the same and you have not only a cheap supply of beads, but will also be helping what would otherwise be an impoverished family.

  4. QUESTION:
What is the best website to order wholesale beads from?
I need quality india glass beads in assortment kits, swarovski crystal beads and semi-precious stone beads. I don't want to be obligated to make huge quantity purchases but I will be using the beads to make art for resale, therefor I need the best price and would like to take advantage of my wholesale id.

    • ANSWER:
The Brighton Bead Shop in Sydney Street Brighton, Uk has a lovely selection of beads they sell to the public and wholesale.

  5. QUESTION:
Are glass beads from India good quality?
    http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=bd0479

Where can I find good quality beads?

    • ANSWER:
I've found that Indian beads tend to be the worst quality--they have cracks, break, and don't even have the bead release cleaned out of them. There are exceptions, but this has been my experience. The ones from China are your next step up, and they're usually okay. Your best glass is going to be Czech, and most European and American glass will be pretty close to that.

Gemstone Beads Spruce Up Your Persona

Author: Sandy Winslow

Gemstone beads are made by cutting and shaping semi precious gemstones into round, oval, nugget, half-moon or irregular shape beads. Semi precious gemstones are natural treasures of the Earth that come infused with countless shades and hues from the Earth's palette. They are featured in diverse sizes and shapes. Semi precious gemstones differ from precious gemstones like diamond, pearl, sapphire, ruby and emerald, as they have flaws. Softer and chip prone gemstones have relatively shorter lives.

Semi precious stone beads were first used in France some 38,000 years ago as currency and in ornaments. Today, gemstone beads are widely used to make designer jewelry and adorn accessories. They can be purchased in single strand or chain forms or in large wholesale packages from online or local vendors. They are very affordable because they are made of inexpensive semi precious gemstones. Their prices vary with the transparency, weight and color rarity of the semi precious stone used in them.

Gemstone beads feature popular semi precious stones such as Clear Topaz, Purple Amethyst, Green Peridot, deep red Garnet and black or transparent Tourmaline stones. They may also feature Blue Topaz stones or Yellow Citrine stones. While the former is obtained by chemically treating Clear Topaz, the latter is attained by chemically treating the Amethyst semi precious stone. Fire opal, Light blue Aquamarine, Red and Dalmatian Jasper, Green or yellow Jade, Topaz Fluorite, Amazonite, Lemon Topaz, Blackstone, Red Aventurine, Snow flake obsidian, Rose quartz, Turquoise, Onyx green, Carnelian, earthy Unakite and Blue Sodalite are the other semi precious stones used to make these beads.

These beads can be used to make beautiful bracelets, earrings or necklaces. Gemstone bead jewelry can be used to assert one's personality for self-expression. Today these gemstone bead ornaments are in fashion. For formal occasions, individuals usually use the round or oval bead variety, as these are well polished and exude a sophisticated appearance. The plainer versions of these beads may be used for a sober look or in light reflecting faceted versions for a very glossy lustrous effect.

The large half-moon and nugget shaped beads are ideal for making chunky jewelry, which is a craze amid the modern youth. In today's times of environmental protection consciousness, gemstone beaded jewelry with chip like unpolished earthy looking beads in multiple colors are very popular. The jewelry is often made using a single hue of semi precious gemstones or by intermingling varied hued stones for a mind boggling visual effect.

The round beads are usually 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm or 15mm in diameter. Chips are available in 6-inch or 16-inch strands.

The powers of semi precious stones to heal ailments, bring forth emotional and economic welfare, impart mental peace and their spiritual significance have been accepted long ago. Gemstone beaded jewelry is also worn by many people for these reasons.

Since beaded semi-precious gemstones are available in shades akin to precious stones, these can easily be used as a low cost exact shade alternative especially in jewelry, albeit ersatz, in place of precious gemstones of corresponding shades. Red garnet beads can replace ruby, moonstone can serve as an alternative to pearl, jade, peridot or green tourmaline can replace emerald and citrine can replace yellow sapphire.

Besides jewelry, these semiprecious gemstone beads are ideal for accenting designer outfits, eveningwear, prom and wedding gowns as well as for embellishing high end clutches and purses. The cheaper reconstructed or dyed stone beads can be used for low-end daily use accessory decoration or for enhancing the appearance of home ornaments and art and craft projects.

    • ANSWER:
Selling on eBay is getting tougher compared to about 2 years ago. The popularity of eBay has attracted more sellers, and more sellers mean more competition for buyers. My advice to you is:

      1. Look for products that are similar to yours. Check completed listings to see how many actually closes with a sale, and the price they are selling.
      2. Study the successful sellers who are offering similar products as yours. Use tools such as DeepAnalysis, which will show you percentage of successful sales of sellers, products that end with sales, etc.
      3. Devise strategies incorporating elements that you think are working for other sellers, and what you think would make people buy your product.
      4. Create compelling copy in your listing, making sure titles have the keywords that users are most likely to use to search for your type of product.
      5. Take good photographs to showcase your product
      6. Write complete description - materials used in your necklaces, length, stones used if any, and other information buyers are most likely to look for in buying your type of product. Take note of the questions buyers send to you and incorporate your responses to those questions in your succeeding listings.
      7. Write clear shipping and return policies and fees.

Can anyone lead me to a place where I can find jewelery designs?
I need some designs to make earrings, I work with #15 seed beads. Ideas of places to get books, designs, or anything lilke that.

    • ANSWER:
Funny you should ask... I just stumbled on a site called The Bead Coop that had literally thousands of patterns, for peyote and brick stitch as well as loomed. I saw lots of earring patterns there. Mostly the patterns use Delicas, but you can convert, I'm sure, if you're experienced enough to be using 15/0 beads.

Sorry, I don't know how to add a URL to this, but you can put "The Bead Coop" in a search engine and it'll come up.

Importance of Bali silver jewellery

Author: Dave Woods

Bali jewelry is very famous for its elaborate and master pieces of silver jewellery. Bali was earlier the sanctuary of the Hindus all of whom were forced out of Java, a Muslim majority area. Mythology says that Lord Mahadeva directly descended to earth and thought the Bali people the art of making craftsmanship and hence started the industry of Bali silver jewellery.

Bali jewellery is a blend of silver and other metals with wide variety of precious stones Also this conventional jewellery, woven silver or gold jewelry is a very popular export item. Bali silver beads are mainly developed in a village called Celuk. This village has a long custom of metalworking going back to the olden days. In those days, the village produced gold and silver beads and jewelry were meant primarily for the rich. But now, they are making silver beads for the international market.

Bali silver beads got famous because not only are they handmade but the silver smiths of this area specialize in making grained silver beads which are elaborately carved and formatted in beautiful geometrical designs.

At first, the artisans imitated the designs of conventional gold jewellery to make silver jewelry. But now with an increased demand for silver items, the silver smiths here produce silver beads and silver ornaments as per the customer demands from the international markets. Traditional demand too exists. Though Balinese prefer to wear only solid gold jewellery, they fabricate the silver beads, chiefly for the global market.

There are many merchandisers who provide quality Bali beads. Make sure you buy the jewel from an authorized Bali silver jewellery supplier. Internet will help you to find the most famous and trusted Bali silver jewelry supplier. One has to be careful while purchasing because of many unscrupulous players prowling i the market. They sell fake beads. In the market you can find beads made in Turkey, China and India. So it is advisable to purchase them from a reliable source.

  4. QUESTION:
Looking for a name for Beaded Jewelry Business?
I use mostly Bali Sterling Silver and crystals. I am looking for a unique name at the beginning of the alphabet. I would like to start an ebay store as well as an internete business. Any suggestions.?

    • ANSWER:
The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

Millefiori Beads

Vintage Venetian glass Millefiori beads

Millefiori Jewelry

By Amy Carrington

For those not familiar with the beautiful designs of Millefiori jewelry, this introduction is likely to begin a life long appreciation for this beautiful jewelry style.

The term Millefiori literally translated from Italian means "thousand flowers" and the jewelry is so named for the painstaking precision and detail, not to mention the pattern that defines this style. Millefiori beads and jewelry are made from hand crafted glass canes or rods known as murrine, which are very plain on the outside but when sliced expose a pattern that appears like a flower, star, geometric design or other detailed pattern.

Artisans create these canes by heating and melting together thin rods of different colored glass to make an internal pattern. To create beads very, very thin vertical slices of the murrine are then applied to glass beads while they are still hot, allowing the murrine slices with the patterns to be pressed into the surface of the bead. These slices of murrine can also be applied to any other type of glass surface to create beautiful pendants, bracelets, rings and other pieces of jewelry and artwork.

Disc style necklaces and bracelets can also be made using various thicknesses of murrine slices. Instead of being drilled through from top to bottom (the patterned sides), the discs are drilled through the sides and strung on a wire or cord to create a strikingly patterned necklace, set of earrings or bracelet.

These Millefiori designs often feature random patterns of the murrine slices rather than all one pattern. It is also common to use silver or gold beads between the Millefiori beads or discs to add a touch of elegance and gleam to the finished jewelry piece.

Keep in mind that each Millefiori bead is made by hand, with the artisan working with the very hot glass beads and adding those ultra thin strips of murrine to the surface, then heating and smoothing to cover the complete bead and make a pattern. When looking at these beads it is almost impossible to understand the amount of skill and craftsmanship that goes into each unique bead or piece of jewelry, creating a truly one of a kind item with each crafting.

Millefiori beads and jewelry items tend to be very brightly colored in various shades of yellows, oranges, blues, pinks, reds and purples. White and black as well as some metallic highlights are used to add detail and to really make the tiny flowers and patterns stand out. Common shapes in Millefiori jewelry and beads include ovals, circles, squares, hearts, crosses and rectangles all with the floral and geometric patterns. Often the shapes are then set in silver or gold to create the rings, bracelets, earrings and pendants that are in high demand around the world.

Surprisingly Millefiori jewelry is not expensive considering the beauty and the hand crafted perfection of these pieces. No two Millefiori items will be exactly the same, which means beyond a doubt that you will be getting a one of a kind item. All authentic Millefiori pieces are sold under the name Millefiori, and while there are some replicas available they are not the same quality and tend to be much less intense is color and much more typically of mass produced items.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where can I buy Millefiori square beads?
I really like the look of Millefiori beads, particularly the 10mm square beads. I'm fond of the green color, but am not pleased with the few sites online that sell them.

I've bought from firemountaingems and am pleased with the quality and price, but I really wanted more colors (preferably green, white, pink, etc). Most of the web sites have no beads like this or the quality/variety is low in my opinion.

Any ideas where I can find Millefiori glass 10mm square beads?

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
If you don't need real glass "millefiori" pattern beads, you can always make your own with polymer clay. They can be indistinguishable from the original trade beads, but can have even more patterns, etc.

If you're ever interested in that, check out at least these two pages of my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site for lessons, examples, tips, etc, etc:

  2. QUESTION:
Fimo Beads / Jewelery?? Ideas please ^_^?
I really love making fimo beads and am just about to make some beads for a bracelet I wan't to wear. The only problem is that I'm stuck for ideas...so what I'm asking is that if you could post some links with pictures or canes (millefiori style) which would be great because then I could get on with my Project! Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
There are *loads* of canes that can be made with polymer clay, and also lots of ways they can be put onto beads (and a few ways that lengths of canes can be made into individual beads as well).

Check out some of the pages at my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site for loads of ideas, examples, lessons, troubleshooting, etc. Instead of giving direct links to each page that would be relevant, just click on the "Table of Contents" page for the site, then go to each of the individual pages listed below using the alphabetical navigation bar:
      http://glassattic.com/polymer/contents.htm

      Canes-Instruction,Types
...and perhaps also Canes-Info.... Canes-Reducing ....Face Canes
      Sheets of Pattern
      Mica Clays
      Blends
      Beads
      Jewelry
      Pendants
      Buttons
And perhaps the 5 pages under "Covering"... and the seasonal pages (Christmas, etc.)

(And here are some googled images of polymer clay beads, though they'll likely have more patterns than just canework:
